Charleston Liposuction
If you are not sure what liposuction is, it is a surgical procedure that many Charleston liposuction qualified surgeons use to provide refinement to your figure. So liposuctions is not some shortcut to becoming thinner without dieting or changing your eating habits.
Patients do not lose a lot of weight during the procedure and not a large quantity of fat is actually removed from the body. Many people, after losing most of the weight, have areas of the body that still contain fat and, using liposuction, the surgeon can trim these trouble spots to conform to the slim shape of the rest of the body.
Areas such as hips, buttock, thighs, knees, arms, chin and neck, stomach and, of course, the infamous "love handles" are typical areas addressed with liposuction. In these cases, the patient has lost the weight but, no matter what they do, these areas stubbornly remain. By using several types of specialized equipment,
Charleston liposuction surgeons are able to do the final contouring of the patient's body.
By using a suction device, the surgeon is able to literally vacuum out the fat from the problem areas. Although liposuction has been popular with women for years, men are beginning to use it more, usually to reduce breast size.
Charleston liposuction have indicated that patients who possess firm, elastic skin and small concentrated areas of fat benefit the most from the procedure.
With these people, the skin contracts around the new contours of the body, so the results look very good. Since older patients often have skin that is less elastic, they often are not good candidates for this procedure.
Recovery time depends on the size of the treated area, but patients can usually expect to be back to their normal routine within one to two weeks. It usually takes 2 or 3 months to completely recover from all the effects of having the surgery. Surgeons often have their patients wear a compression garment for the first couple weeks after having the procedure.
Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture Surgery
Ultrasound-assisted Liposculpture, abbreviated "UAL", is a new variant of the typical liposuction procedure. UAL procedures employ the use of a probe that can give off ultrasonic, high frequency sound. This high frequency sound actually makes the fat cells turn to liquid so they can then be vacuumed up by the suction part of the device.
By using UAL, a surgeon can remove larger amounts of fat since the device does not produce as much tissue damage or bleeding as the traditional device. Compared with traditional liposuction, UAL also produces less bruising. Traditional liposuction sometimes produces irregularities in the contours of the treated areas, but this is much less likely with UAL.
The sound emitting UAL probe cannot be used on all areas of the body and you should check with your surgeon to find if it can be used in your procedure. The UAL technique can also be more expensive, since the equipment costs significantly more than the traditional type. Lastly, be aware that the first two generations of UAL machines could possibly damage skin with overly powerful sound waves. Third and later generation equipment apparently have resolved this problem.
Often, Charleston liposuction surgeons will employ both UAL and traditional equipment in a surgery, depending on the patient and where the treatment area is, so you may find this true in your area also.
